Abstract
The article examines the role of urban food markets within the economic infrastructure of the city using the example of the Yunusabad dehkan market in Tashkent. The research is based on the results of a field sociological survey conducted among entrepreneurs and traders operating within the market area. The study analyzes the characteristics of trading activities, seasonal fluctuations in demand for key product categories, the structure of entrepreneurs’ expenses, rental policy, electricity consumption, and payment methods used in market transactions.
Special attention is given to the impact of market reconstruction on the economic activity of traders and the functioning of the market infrastructure. The results demonstrate that traditional urban markets continue to play a significant role in the development of small businesses, employment generation, and ensuring the stability of urban food supply systems.
