Abstract

This article examines the scientific and theoretical foundations of the placebo effect, its historical development, psychological and physiological mechanisms, and its practical significance in modern medicine. Particular attention is given to the role of the placebo effect in clinical trials, its positive and negative effects on the human body, and the ethical principles governing its application. The findings indicate that the placebo effect is closely associated with patients’ psychological state, expectations, and trust, activating internal physiological mechanisms that contribute to improved treatment outcomes.
