Abstract
This article examines the selection of reverse filters to ensure the filtration resistance and stability of cores and screens in earth dams. The granulometric composition, permeability, and soil-particle retention properties of reverse filter materials are analyzed. The interaction between the core, screen, and reverse filter, as well as their influence on the strength and stability of earth dams, is also considered. The importance of selecting filter materials based on laboratory investigations, engineering calculations, and modern modeling methods is substantiated. It is shown that optimal selection of reverse filters can reduce the risks of suffusion, internal erosion, and filtration deformation while improving the long-term operational reliability of earth dams.
