Abstract

This paper looks at the linguistic units that build expressiveness in Uzbek press and magazine texts, together with the stylistic-pragmatic potential of rhetorical questions. The topic is relevant because Uzbek linguistics has mostly studied the rhetorical question on fiction material, while its role in periodical press has not been described as a coherent system. The novelty lies in distinguishing six pragmatic directions the device takes in journal texts, linked to where it sits in the text structure. Descriptive, contextual-pragmatic and stylistic analysis were used.
